Year One
FOUNDATIONAL YEAR - APPRENTICE CLASSES

MAP 110 TO 140 – FOUNDATIONAL MIME TECHNIQUES
These foundational classes take the student through specific techniques, exercises, movements and choreography, covering the basic elements of mime technique. The student develops an understanding of different styles of movement and variations in standard technique. This course offer more individualized attention in the following areas: (3 units)

MAP 110 – Mime Basics
A foundational class covering the basic elements of mime technique such as isolations, body & feet positions, walks, colorations and rhythms. An essential class to building a complete mime vocabulary.

MAP 120 - Mime Style
This course teaches the style unique to the French, Polish and American masters such as Marcel Marceau and Ettienne Decroux. Through analysis and recreation, the student will learn attitudes, senses and elements.

MAP 130 - Mime Illusion
A fundamental study that teaches the basics of mime illusions such as the wall, the rope, walking in place, ball manipulation, appearing & disappearing, and basic object identification.

MAP 140 - Mime Lab I
A monitored creative session geared to provide time for the development of original pieces and/or for the personal study of technique.

MAP 111 TO 160 – FOUNDATIONAL MIME TECHNIQUE (CONTINUED)
These foundational classes continue where Beginning Mime Technique left off. It takes the student through specific techniques, exercises, movements and choreography, covering more basic mime technique. The student continues developing his or her understanding of different styles of movement and variations in standard technique. This course offer more individualized attention in the following areas: (2 units)

MAP 111 - Mime Basics & Style Review
A complete review and further analysis of mime basics and styles already covered in previous classes, such as MAP 110 and MAP 120.

MAP 150 - Statuary Mime
A course that utilizes stylized statuary techniques to create stories, pictures and various images in tableau form using pivots as metamorphosis, or marches as transitions.

MAP 160 - Mimesis
A series of classes that focuses on masters choreography. The student copies, through analysis and recreation, a masterpiece, or techniques used by a master in his or her masterpiece.

MAP 141 - Mime Lab II
This hands-on course is designed to give the student time in the studio to work creatively on specific exercises, movements and choreography. The course offer more individualized attention whilst the Lab research and topics discussed are suggested by the student.

MAP 171 TO 174 – FORMS CLASSES
These classes take the student through specific exercises, movements and choreography, while giving the student time in the studio to develop a greater movement vocabulary. The student develops an understanding of different styles of movement by applying themselves to the following forms: (3 units)

MAP 171 - Beginning Forms Studies I
MAP 172 - Beginning Ballet Studies I
MAP 172 - Beginning Jazz Studies I
MAP 174 - Beginning Drama Studies I

MAP 175 TO 178 – FORMS CLASSES CONTINUED
These classes take the student through specific exercises, movements and choreography, while giving the student time in the studio to develop a greater movement vocabulary. The student develops an understanding of different styles of movement by applying themselves to the following forms: (3 units)

MAP 175 - Beginning Forms Studies II
MAP 176 - Beginning Ballet Studies II
MAP 177 - Beginning Jazz Studies II
MAP 178 - Beginning Drama Studies II

MAP 180 – TEAM MIMEISTRY I
A hands-on class designed to give the student practical training in the ministry aspects of mime, dance, or drama, such as evangelism, street work, worship, prophecy and pulpit support. (1 unit)

MAP 181 – TEAM MIMEISTRY II
A hands-on class designed to give the student practical training in the ministry aspects of mime, dance, or drama, such as evangelism, street work, worship, prophecy and pulpit support. (1 unit)

MAP 190 – CONDITIONING I
A preparatory course for MAP 110, 120, 130, & 140, that emphasize basic exercise to strengthen the muscles of the upper and lower body, as well as providing a cardio-vascular workout, to help improve health and alignment. (1 unit)

MAP 191 – CONDITIONING II
A preparatory course for MAP 110, 120, 130, & 140, that emphasize basic exercise to strengthen the muscles of the upper and lower body, as well as providing a cardio-vascular workout, to help improve health and alignment. (1 unit)

MAP 182 – PRACTICAL MINISTRY
All Ministering Arts majors are required to complete 6 hours of practical ministry credit each semester of the 3 years of their required study. (1 credit)

MAP 182 – MINISTERING ARTS TOUR
The Ministering Arts Tour is considered a practical learning experience/environment in which the student is given practical training in the ministry aspects of mime, dance, or drama, such as evangelism, street work, worship, prophecy and pulpit support. The MGAP tour requirement can be substituted using workshops and Lab credits. One week workshop is equivalent to 1.5 tour credits. Special Projects can also be considered for completion. Tour applications need to be in before their specific due-date (at least 3 months before the tour commence). (3 unit)

ATH 110 - ARTS THEOLOGY (SILENT PROPHET)
This course offers a series of lectures on loving God, the symbolism of the body, Biblical mime, and dance gesture. It includes an in-depth exploration into the use of the arts in the Bible as outlined in the book The Silent Prophet. The final exam is a requirement for the Apprentice program. (3 units)

MAT 140 – FOUNDATIONAL MIMEOGRAPHY THEORY
This course takes the student through the process of creating, focusing on aspects like dramatic line, the use of comedy, the importance of good theology in performance/ministry, analyzing a text, and other creative techniques. (2 units)

MAT 130 – MIME THEORY (THE MASTERY OF MIMODRAME I)
Using the Mastery of Mimodrame I as its guide, this course develops the theory needed to understand the reasoning and motivation of mime. The final exam is a requirement for the Apprentice program. (2 units)

ATH 120 – ARTS THEOLOGY (PROPHETIC GESTURES)
A series of classes reviewing the lectures, workbook, and accompanying answer book found in Prophetic Gestures. The final exam is a requirement for the Apprentice program. (3 units)
